Coaches Application Form

Coaches are required to meet HMHA expectations as set out below, in addition to complying with the HMHA Constitution and By-Laws and Rules of Operation.

The Head Coach decision impacts the players in their development, their growth, and their enjoyment of the game. Persons applying for a Coaching position should consider these before submitting their Application.


ASSOCIATION EXPECTATIONS

 

1 - Conduct

HMHA and its members are committed to compliance with its “Code of Conduct”. The Code of Conduct identifies the standard of behaviour which HMHA expects of all members including the coaching staff. 

Code of Conduct for Coaches / Team Personnel is attached and must be signed as part of the application.

2 - Leadership

The Coach’s responsibilities as team leader include:

 

·                Seasonal / intermittent goals and objectives for the team.

·                Development of player abilities and individual skills.

·                Demonstrative behaviour as a role-model, (leadership, mentoring, cooperation).

·                Selection of support staff (Assistant Coaches, Trainer and Manager, etc) must meet the HMHA executive approval.

·                Strengthen relationships and build teamwork. 

 

3 - Instruction

The Coach’s responsibility as instructor/ teacher include:

·          Teach hockey skills as laid out in the Hockey Canada Coaching Manuals.

·          Teach hockey skills appropriate to the age.

·                Teach using the proper sequences and progressions.

·                Communicate to players in appropriate language and tones.

·                Teach to players varied learning styles, aptitudes and levels of ability.

·                Provide a disciplined environment for all players.

·                Plan effective practices.

 

4 - Coach as Risk and Conflict Manager

The Coach’s responsibilities to ensure maximum safety and minimum conflict include:

·                Proper supervision in dressing rooms and on ice at all times.

·                Report any abuse to the Executive.

·                Quickly resolve issues promptly and increase team unity.

 

All applications will be interviewed by a committee as set by HMHA
