Silver Stick by Sheila Phibbs
The Pee Wee Reps had an interesting match-up on Wednesday, December 3rd as Plattsville came to town.  This was a pre-view of Hagersville’s second game in the Regional Silver Stick tournament coming up on the weekend.  The visitors proved to be a strong opponent, creating offense throughout the game resulting in four goals.  The Hawks were put to the test coming away with two goals from the stick of Dusty McKeen.  Assists went to Kalvin Logan, Travis Phibbs and Emma Campbell

Though a loss, this game helped with final preparations for the Silver Stick in Wasaga Beach.  The tournament began early on December 6th with an 8 am face-off against Stayner.  Hagersville got off to a quick start as Dawson McKeen shot from the blue line for Travis Phibbs to re-direct into the net.  Minutes later, Brayden Lance centered the puck and Spencer Martin picked it up and spun around to shoot it straight in.

Stayner cut into the lead at the end of the first and carried that momentum through the rest of the game with four more goals.  Hagersville worked hard to create opportunities but were often denied at the net.  Emma Campbell was able to give the Hawks a third goal, assisted by Travis Phibbs and Dusty McKeen.  The final moments were crazy as Hagersville turned on the pressure making numerous shots for a never give up finish to the game.

It was a long day as the team had to wait until after 5 pm for their anticipated encounter with Plattsville.  Hagersville made a great effort but could not equalize the strong, offensive challenge losing 5-0 in a hard played game.

After fun and relaxation and a good sleep, Hagersville returned on Sunday for their final game of the tournament against league counterparts St. George.  Knowing this was a team you cannot underestimate, the Hawks came out fast scoring early with a shot from Justin Wenzowski, assisted by Jordan Guetter and Emma Campbell.

The team got stronger with both forwards and defense contributing to the offensive tally.  The result was the highest scoring game of the season that included two hat tricks – one for Justin Wenzowski and one for Dusty McKeen.  Also hitting the net were Travis Phibbs, Brayden Lance, Jordan Guetter (2), Dylan Swick (2), and Keaton Garvie.  Assists went to Jordan Guetter (3), Dusty McKeen, Travis Phibbs, Keaton Garvie, Jacob Gallagher, Emma Campbell (2), Dawson McKeen, and Kalvin Logan.  Spencer Martin, Zack Demille and Owen Prinzen were strong contributors in this game and throughout the weekend.  Both Bradley Verral and Logan Scott backed the team well in net as they faced a flurry of hard shots in each of their games.

While the final outcome may not have been what was hoped, the team and coaches can be proud of the effort they made as they played disciplined and respectful hockey.  It was great to see the team go out on a high note and they were great ambassadors for the community and the game itself.  Keep it up, Pee Wees, and you’ll see more success in the weeks ahead!
