After more than two weeks without a
game, the Pee Wee Reps were back on the ice for an afternoon game in Cayuga on
Sunday, January 4th. This was
the opening game of the Southern Counties Pee Wee Division ‘C’ playoffs and,
though both teams looked a bit rusty to start, they were both out for the
win. It took some time to get going before
Jordan Guetter got the puck on the net and Justin Wenzowski finished it off for
the first goal of the game. Soon after
that, Travis Phibbs carried the puck behind the net then passed to Dusty McKeen
whose shot rebounded for Emma Campbell to send in.
The first half of the second was bogged down with penalties to both teams but Hagersville found a way to score when Kalvin Logan’s shot came off the pads to Jacob Gallagher who shot perfectly for the net. Early in the third, the line of Travis Phibbs, Dusty McKeen and Emma Campbell cycled the puck around the net until Emma set up Dusty who put it away.
The Hawks showed more spark in the third and had the goals to show for it. Kalvin Logan skated in to force in a sharp angled shot. Jordan Guetter scored on a solo effort which was followed by another goal from Kalvin. Dylan Swick earned the final goal on a late power play, assisted by Brayden Lance. Bradley Verral was solid in net to earn the shut out. The win was a great way to start the playoffs and the excitement has only begun with much more to be done in the weeks ahead.
