A Well Played Season by Jenn Russell
On Sunday March 29th the Hagersville Restaurant Peewee LL Hawks took the challenge of facing the Glanbrook 8 team for the Peewee “A” Championship game.

The team was going in to the game as the underdog but they were determined to not go down without a fight.  Glanbrook was able to put a point on their side in the first and ended this period up by one.  Early in the second Hagersville’s Dylan Sherry worked his magic with a beautiful shot to even the score up once again assisted by Brett Russell.  Russell followed up with a goal of his own, as he snuck out of the sin bin to find himself behind Glanbrook’s line and a puck on the end of his stick.  Owen Mattice earned an assist on the goal as he saw the opportunity to land a perfect pass on Russell’s stick who then skated in to deke out the goalie and landed his shot.  The Hawks finished up the second by adding one more when Nolan McNeil took an awesome shot from just inside the line and caught the top corner of the net putting the Hawks in front of their nemesis by two but Glanbrook also found the net to close that gap and putting themselves within a shot of the Hawks.  In the third Hagersville was at a disadvantage as they found themselves playing short 4 minutes in both the second and third periods and Glanbrook took advantage of one 5 on 3 chance to even the score halfway in.  Hagersville tried to pull ahead with another of their own but it was Glanbrook that was able to sneak ahead with two and a half minutes left in the third.  With some last minute scrambles Glanbrook was barely able to hold their season but as the final seconds ticked away Hagersville couldn’t find a chance and the final score was 4-3 for Glanbrook.  A well-played game by the Hawks and the team should be very proud of their season.  A special mention to the team: Goalie: Mason Leenders who came up to us from the Atom division and played his first season of hockey was an incredible player this season.  Defensive players Drailyn Hill, A.J. Elliott, Jaden Speers, Owen Mattice and not for these two games but for most of the playoff season Ben Greenfield were solid and confident in their positions, and the offensive players Ethan Trainer, Nolan McNeil, Michael Aube, Hannah McNeice, Brayden Topp, Dominic Baillie, Dylan Sherry and Brett Russell who made some fantastic plays and did their job well.  Everyone contributed to the team’s success this season and the team should hold their heads highe.  A huge thank you to the bench:  Coach Hoss Poirier, Assistant Coach Stan Gale, Trainers Ryan McNeil and Terry Mattice.  Thanks for a great season Hawks and enjoy a safe and happy summer.  See you in the fall.
