"V" is for Victory by Jenn Russell
The Hagersville Novice LL9 Hawks ended their second half of the season with a ‘V’ on Sunday March 13th at the Caledonia rink.  Hagersville had a couple of tough losses, in their last couple of games, when they faced Caledonia 2 on March 12th and the current top place team, Stoney Creek 10 on March 6th.

These two losses put them down in the standings, making this game a do or die game for both sides.  It was evident in the first 10 seconds of play that Hagersville was coming out with all their arms swinging.  Koen Berkel sank the puck deep, after a scramble in front of Caledonia’s net, assisted by Madelynn Lammel.    Cameron Coffey made some amazing saves throughout all the periods keeping his team in the game and the defensive efforts of Emmitt Houwer, Owen Young, Mason Mitchell and Tristan Hoyt was tough to beat.

Hagersville kept, the 1 goal lead, until early in the third when Berkel found the net once again, with a zinger of a shot the Caledonia goalie didn’t see coming, assisted by Cashton Gowing.  The offensive players Emily Walton, Devyn Russell, Avery Heaslip, Madelynn Lammel, Cashton Gowing and Koen Berkel were relentless in the neutral zone and in Caledonia’s end.  They did an amazing job continuing to fire the shots at the Caledonia net and all their efforts paid off.

The final goal of the game was scored late in the third, by Emmitt Houwer, when he was in the right place at the right time to land the shot.  The assist on Emmitt’s goal was to Avery Heaslip and Cameron Coffey.  The team was very excited, as the final seconds ticked down, knowing they had secured their spot in the semi-final game still to be scheduled.  Coffey with a quick glove and his big pads earned himself a very deserved shut out and the final score was 3-0 for the Hawks.  Great game Hawks!!! You all played a fantastic game and the team hopes that their line mates William Voituk, Caleb Brant, Jacob Yates and Noah Reicheld will be able to join them for their semifinal game as we face the current first place team Stoney Creek 10.
