Caledonia Cup Tourny
The Novice Rep Hawks participated in the Caledonia Cup Tournament this past weekend, which took place at the Caledonia, Cayuga and Hagersville Arenas.

The Hawks were guaranteed 3 games to determine if they could be one of the top 4 teams to advance to the semi finals. We knew it would be a tough task, considering our competition was coming from much larger centres.
Our first game on Friday was against the Dundas Blues. We played a great game against this team, using all of our strengths. It was a close game right up until the second half of the 3rd period. The score ended up 6-2, however, that definitely doesn’t reflect the type of game our Hawks played. We were fore checking, back checking, passing, and had many scoring chances that just couldn’t squeeze through, and the Dundas goalie played pretty well which didn’t help us.

Goals were scored by Ethan Kett and Cameron Schweitzer.

Assists went to Lucas Phibbs.

Game 2 was against the Simcoe Warriors. We recalled from last year that Simcoe had a strong team, and that we would have to work hard to score goals. The score ended up 12-2, and our goals were scored by Lucas Phibbs assisted by Ethan Kett, and by Stephen Reidy assisted by Olivia Richard.

Game 3 was against the Mount Brydges Cougars. They were a strong, physical team that took a lot of penalties being forceful with our players. Unfortunately, it was a tough game for our guys and we lost 18-0. We had some scoring chances but just couldn’t get them past their goalie. Mount Brydges went on to win the tournament, beating Simcoe 3-1.

We have another tournament coming up, the Silver Stick in Kincardine. It will be a fun weekend for the team to spend together, and the teams should be more evenly matched. Our team just needs to keep doing the right things, use puck pressure on the opposing team, and continue to skate hard every shift and the wins will come!
