Hawks vs. Rockets
Tonight the
Hawks took on the Delhi Rockets at Home. We played a much better game than our
last, and even though we couldn’t sneak in the tie, all players should be proud
of the game they played!
The game was quite evenly matched, but we struggled to get the puck out of our own end, because Delhi’s defense was strong and very good at holding the blue line. Our backup goalie, Cameron Schweitzer, was in net for the first time for the first half of the game. He did a great job and kept us competitive in the game!
We were lucky to score first, during the second period, giving our team the momentum it needed to continue to battle strong against the Rockets and chase down their breakaways.
We used numerous passing plays; a really good play was made by passing the puck back to our defense to set up a scoring chance. However, our guys just could not sneak it past the Delhi goalie, who played a pretty good game.
We didn’t always use our fore check, although when we did it resulted in overturning the puck many times. This is a strategy we have been practicing and need to continue to use when playing stronger teams.
Despite pulling our goalie during the last minute or so, we were still not able to tie the game. The final score was 2-1 for Delhi. The Hawks should be proud of the game they played tonight! Keep it up, guys!
Special mention:
Cameron Schweitzer – did an awesome job in net tonight!
Goal – Quintin Salverda
Assist – Ryerson Kett, Lucas Phibbs.
