Let the Playoffs begin
After a fantastic regular season in the AE loop, we have moved up to the Rep 'C' grouping for Southern Counties playoffs and they got off to a terrific start.

We opened against Waterford who we had met in exhibition play twice so we were quite familiar with their game.

The first period started out with a lot of effort on the Hawks side but not much success generating any offense, and unfortunately at the 7 minute mark the Waterford star forward found some open space and walked in rifling a shot high glove side to make it 1-0 Waterford.
With 5 minutes to go in the period, the Hagersville offense the Hawks offense netted the equalizer with Owen Doolittle taking a pass from the corner and outwaiting the goalie before backhanding it into the net to tie it 1-1. Connor Mendes and Evan Sibbick picked up the assists on the play. Using the momentum of the goal on Doolittle's next shift he buried his second of the game on a quick wrist shot from the slot, with Justin Kerwin and Gavin Simington drawing the assists this time. With the hawks in full flight, Sibbick joined the scoring with a little over a minute to go in the period to make it 3-1 on a wrist shot the goalie didn't have any chance on. Braeden Heeg picked up the assist on the goal. With the clock under a minute to go, a neutral zone turnover created an opportunity for Waterford and they wouldn't miss burying it, making it 3-2 at the end of the first.
The second period was a slower pace and while neither team could find the back of the net it wasn't because of lack of chances. Austin Topp had to make a couple big saves including a glove save to deny the Waterford star his hat trick.
The third period was much of the same as the second, with Hagersville tightening up the defence and working to preserve the one goal lead. With 6 minutes to go, the Hawks were forced to kill off a penalty and thanks to terrific penalty killing they were able to do so, without any good chances by Waterford. With just over 2 minutes to go, and the game still 3-2, Doolittle scooped up a pass from Heeg and gathering speed thru the neutral zone, beat the Waterford defenceman wide and cut back to complete his hat trick and give the Hawks a little breathing room. Final score 4-2 for the Hawks. Great start to the playoffs.
