Silver Stick Tournament Dec 27-30
The Hawks were on the road this past week when we took a long (snowy) drive to Kincardine to play in the Silver Stick. Our first game was Wednesday afternoon against a strong team from Ripley. The kids did not give their best effort in this game (maybe it was the long drive or too much turkey). The hawks were down 2-0 but battled back to tie the game before losing 5-2. Our second game was against another strong team from Wingham on Thursday afternoon and again the kids came out a bit slow and spent alot time in our end. The Hawks were down 2-0 after one period and could never catch up and get back into the game as they lost by a final score of 6-1. The Hawks played their last round robin game Thursday afternoon against Blyth and the kids knew they needed their best effort

if they wanted to advance to the elimination rounds. The Hawks had their feet moving and dominated most the game and Daxton was there to shut the door on any chances Blyth had as the hawks won 4-0. The Hawks were back on the ice Friday to play Wingham in the semi finals. The Hawks were determined to get some revenge on the team that already beat them (6-1) and came out with one of their best games of the year. The kids skated hard and controlled most the play. Wingham spent most of the game in their own end chasing the Hawks around. Owen scored the only goal of the game late in the second period on a break away and Daxton shut the door for his second shutout of the tourney. Hawks won 1-0 and advanced to the finals against Ripley. Although Ripley had alot more fans there than Hagersville I am sure our fans were louder. The game was a tight game for the first two periods. Daxton kept the Hawks in it with many big saves. Ripley scored late in the second period with a hard shot that just trickled by Daxton. The kids were given a 3 minute break before the third period and the Hawks took full advantage. Aiden scored early when he beat the defence and scored on a break away. Owen scored a minute later on a breakaway of his own to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead. Owen added his second after some hard work by Aiden down low, Aiden got the puck to Owen out front and he buried it. The Hawks never let up and Ripley had no idea what hit them. Ayden made it 4-1 with a hard shot from the high slot and Issac finished off the scoring with a good shot from the point that beat the goalie. HAWKS WIN 5-1. Daxton was awarded the game M.V.P as he had another great game in net. The coaches knew the Hawks could play like that and they showed up with their best effort when needed. Great tournament kids you guys deserve it. A big thanks goes to all the parents and grand parents that came out to cheer us on, you guys are awesome and I hope you as much fun as we did. GO HAWKS GO - SILVER STICK CHAMPS....
