You Win Some, You Lose Some and Sometimes You Tie Some
It’s been a rough go for the Hagersville Hawks Atom CGC Local League 9 team the second half of their season.  Many of the kids have been battling the flu and the team has not had a full roster since the tournament they attended the last weekend in January.  Even with the teams run of troubles they have given it their all and continue to try their best.

On January 31st the Hagersville Atom CGC  Local League 9 team faced off against the Cayuga 1 team.  Cayuga found the board three minutes into the first period but Hagersville’s Quintin Salverda answered back before the period ended evening the board once again.

In the second, Emmitt Houwer that was filling in for Calvin Eggink in net made some amazing saves and Salverda added another unassisted as did Conner Rasberry with an assist from Treyanna Lee Green and Houwer, giving the team a 2 goal lead heading into the third.  Unfortunately Cayuga found the board 2 more times in the third as well and the game ended even at 3.

On February 7th the two Hagersville teams were scheduled to face off.  Hagersville 10 took an early lead in the first as they found the net three times this period.

In the second Salverda put his team on the board when he scored a beauty with the help of Devyn Russell.  Hagersville 10 also added another one to their side.

Hagersville 10 added one more early in the third as did Conner Rasberry from Hagersville 9’s side with a fantastic shot assisted by Emily Walton and Cooper Murphy.  Final score 5-2 for Hagersville 10 but a valiant effort given by Hagersville 9.

On February 13th Hagersville Atom CGC  Local League 9 found themselves heading to Cayuga to play their Local League 1 team.  Cayuga managed to sneak one past goaltender Calvin Eggink early in the first when Eggink was having some equipment issues.  Salverda answered their call in the first with an assist to Rasberry.

The Hawks continued to press on in the second when Salverda landed 2 more to complete his hat trick and give his team a 2 goal lead.  His first was assisted by Russell and his second by Tristan Hoyt.

Cayuga snuck one more on their side in the third and fought hard with the added player and no goalie to tie things up but the Hawks held them off and Eggink was rock solid in net.  Hagersville took the win 3-2.

On February 14th the Hagersville Atom CGC  Local League 9 team played host to the Caledonia Cruisers.  Caledonia hit the board first early in the game and the Hawks found themselves trailing by 1.

Emmitt Houwer put a beauty on his team’s side, to even things up in the second, assisted by Russell and Salverda and the score remained even until less than 2 minutes left of the game when Caledonia was rewarded with a questionable goal but then scored another seconds later to take the game.  Final score 3-1 for Caledonia.

On February 17th the two Hagersville teams battled once again.  Both teams were down players this game and relied on support from their AP players.  The board remained at 0 by the end of the first.  Eggink was phenomenal in net shutting the door on several shots.

Early in the second Conner Rasberry put Hagersville 9 on the board when he banked a shot off the back of the Hagersville 10 goaltender, assist to Emmitt Houwer.  Hagersville 10 added two to their side late in the frame to take the lead heading into the third.

Eggink continued to be amazing in net blocking several really good shots and keeping his team in the game.  Hagersville 10 added only one more this period halfway through but Hagersville 9 answered back with two of their own with less than 3 minutes left in the game.  Salverda found the puck on the end of his stick, scoring the first one, unassisted and Mason Mitchell scored the equalizer just over a minute later with the help of Salverda.  For the first time this season Hagersville 9 managed a tie against this very solid Hagersville team (almost a win with 0.7 seconds left).  What an exciting game for fans to watch.  Great game by both sides.  Final score 3-3.
