Can't Win Them All by Jenn Russell
The Hagersville Restaurant Peewee LL Hawks had a very busy week.  It started on home ice February 25th when Caledonia 2 came to town.

The first period ended with both sides equally trying to find the first point on the board but coming up empty.  The score stayed this way until the last half of the second when Drailyn Hill took a shot from the point that bounced off Ethan Trainer’s stick then off Brett Russell’s for the tip in.  This was all the Hawks needed to take the game as goalie Mason Leenders earned himself a playoff shutout.  Great game team.

In the evening of February 27th the team travelled to Glanbrook to face the top ‘A’ division team.  With less than two minutes into the first, the Hawks found the board when Owen Mattice sent the puck up to Nolan McNeil that skated the length of the ice to find the top corner for the opening goal.  Glanbrook answered back just over a minute later with a goal of their own.  It became evident in the second period that Glanbrook didn’t like how close the Hawks were getting to taking away their undefeated season as the Hawks played most of the second down a man or two and one of these such occasions resulted in a go ahead goal for the Glanbrook team.  The penalties continued to curse the Hagersville team throughout the third period and again they found themselves playing the period always down by a man or two but holding their own.  In the last minute of the game the Hawks had a do or die moment and pulled goalie Mason Leenders.  Unfortunately the result did not go in Hagersville’s favor as Glanbrook  sunk one, then two empty netters to take the game with a 4-1 score.

On February 28th Glanbrook headed to Hagersville for another show down.  The first and second periods were scoreless for both sides but a lot of amazing plays by the team and goalie Mason Leenders.  Glanbrook had a lucky break early in the third when one of their goals counted after they kicked it into our net and there was no call upstairs to confirm.  The puck found Hagersville’s net again halfway through the third giving them a 2-0 lead.  The Hawk’s looking to take away Glanbrook’s shut out pulled their goalie resulting in yet another point for Glanbrook’s side and they took the win 3-0.  Hold your heads high Hawk’s as you clearly outplayed Glanbrook in both these back to back games no matter how the refs called the game or what the scoreboard read.

The team brought in March with the heart of a lion as they faced off against Caledonia 3 in Caledonia on Sunday afternoon.  Hagersville took the lead in the first period when Michael Aube sent an awesome pass out front finding Dylan Sherry’s stick.  Dylan wasted no time putting that puck in.  Hagersville kept their lead until just over a minute left in the second when Caledonia found themselves on a power play and took advantage of this evening up the score.  Hagersville took the lead again early in the third when Aube skated in and squeaked in a beauty unassisted.  Again Caledonia answered back evening the score.  Hagersville found themselves down once again a man when Caledonia took off down the ice to land the go ahead goal for their side.  Hagersville scrambled and scrambled, pulling their goalie for the extra attacker with less than a minute left in the game but the score remained 3-2 until the final buzzer for Caledonia.  The team have another busy week this week coming as the playoffs wind down.  Keep up the hard work team and you will find yourselves on top.  Go Hawks.
