OMHA Vaccination Policy and HMHA Refund Policy
Submitted By gbacher on Wed 09 22, 21
Good afternoon, I wanted to send an email directly to each of our members on behalf of HMHA to ensure everyone is aware that the OMHA reviewed their policy on COVID 19 vaccinations and have decided that they will not change their initial decision this season.  I have attached the OMHA correspondence below.  If you have any questions that you would like to ask regarding the OMHA policy then please contact the OMHA office directly, we are only doing what is required of us to maintain our position as an OMHA member for the members that choose to continue to play.

Please be respectful of our position and the requirement to follow the policy and understand that everyone's co-operation is expected and required, not only with this but also the Town of Haldimand Policy on use of facilities, the Town of Haldimand has always has a great relationship with HMHA and our membership, they are simply implementing policies that they are given from the Provincial Government.  The arena staff and the staff that we communicate with for use of facilities are great people and fellow community members, please co-operate and behave appropriately when using facilities for HMHA events/activities.  If we are informed of spectators or participants that are not co-operative then myself or Chad Staats will deal with it directly and appropriately.

We have 3 volunteers that will be collecting vaccination status information, please watch the website for details on this, there will be specific days that you will be required to meet one of these volunteers at the arena so they can confirm vaccination for participants and all volunteers (on ice or otherwise).  This information will of course be confidential and copies will not be required or kept.

We (HMHA Executive) realize that some families may decide to not vaccinate kids 12 - 17 years old and it is important to understand HMHA policy for refunds.  This policy will be followed strictly and it is important to understand that not being vaccinated is not a medical reason for requesting refund.  Being unvaccinated is a choice not a medical condition and will not be considered after September 30th.  Again this is unfortunate but knowing that the OMHA requirement will not change and considering that we must form teams in the first week of October we cannot have refund requests coming after September 30th as there will not be sufficient time to re-organize our teams and an entire league schedule.
For a formal request for refund you may simply reply to this email and by doing so your request will be received by HMHA President, Vice President and Treasurer.

6.  Refunds will be issued if a request is submitted in writing prior to October 1st of that playing season. After October 1st, a refund will be issued upon written request for medical reasons only, with proper physician's documentation or if a player's residence is moving from H.M.H.A. jurisdiction.

We thank you for your commitment to all participants and we celebrate your efforts to allow players to return to play safely.

Haldimand County has added Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to our website to assist in answering questions/inquiries regarding the provincial vaccination passport regulations.  This can be found at the following link:

Frequently Asked Questions

Please share this link within your organization, and it can also be posted on your organization websites, where applicable.  A news release will follow shortly, and I will provide the link to that as soon as it is available.

Included in these documents is updated information on vaccination requirements for coaches/officials/volunteers.  Please note that  Haldimand County will require coaches, officials and volunteers supporting organized sport to be fully vaccinated by October 31, in order to enter recreational facilities. This  grace period applies ONLY to these individuals, in order to allow them to continue their duties which are integral to the  operations of our minor sport associations.  After October 31, they  will need to show proof of full vaccination (2 doses + 14 days) along with personal identity to enter the facilities, unless they have a documented medical exemption as outlined in the provincial regulations.

Thanks for your consideration and co-operation and if your child is unable to participate this season then I am very sorry, you must all do what you think is best for your family and hope that this will change prior to the start of next season.

Lloyd Williams
HMHA President

P.S.  We are currently seeking coaches for U13 and U18 Divisions, please contact Adam Binek or Mark McSorley (see article on our website) if you are willing to help out.  If we are not able to find coaches soon then we will have to discontinue play for both age groups until we are able to fill the necessary positions.  This does not only affect a team or players but affects the entire division as we cannot split teams until we have enough coaches.
