Hawks @ Tavistock
The Hawks took on the Tavistock Titans in Tavistock this weekend. They knew their defense would have to work hard to shut down the Titans scoring if they wanted a chance for their first win. The game was back and forth with both teams working hard to create chances. James Downes played a fabulous game in net, and was able to stay focused and shut down many Titan scoring chances.

Tavistock scored first, and the Hawks knew they had to step up their game if they wanted to stay in it. Lucas Phibbs was able to sneak one in, assisted by Quintin Salverda, to tie the game at 1. Tavistock answered back with 2 goals, one going off a Tavistock player’s jersey and landing on the goal line where a waiting forward jabbed it in. Tavistock scored again, making it 3-1.

The Hawks defense along with our goalie contained the Tavistock players, while our forwards continued to use puck pressure in the corners and passes out front to create scoring chances. We gained puck possession many times due to our fore checking.  Lucas scored again, making it 3-2. He had another shot on net, saved and created a rebound chance for Ryerson Kett, who buried the puck for our 3rd goal to make it 3-3, with the assist going to Carson Bacher.

Tavistock answered back with another goal making it 4-3. The puck was in our end quite a bit, but we were able to get it out, where Koen Berkel passed it up to Lucas, who took it down, and scored, tying it up once again.
With only 1:42 left and the face off in our end the Hawks knew if they wanted to secure a tie they had to shut the Titans down NOW. We worked hard to get the puck out, but iced it which brought the face off back to our end. Unfortunately Tavistock played with the same desperation and were looking for the win. They pushed through and were able to slide the puck in with under a minute left in the game.

A disappointing loss for the team but they played well. We still have some work to do, but we’ve played two really good/close games so far. Keep it up, guys!

Special Mention:

James Downes – played an excellent game in net. He continues to learn and keep focused. Great job!

Lucas Phibbs – Scored his first Hat Trick!

Defense – Olivia Richard and Eddie Aitchison/Carson Bacher and Kaellum Meyer continue to work hard, win battles, and pass the puck along the board to the wingers to get the puck out of our end. They stay patient and make opportunities happen. Eddie was able to help her goalie out and stopped the puck multiple times before it could even reach the net. Great job!
