Hometown Murray Johnson Tournament
The Hagersville Atom CGC participated in their hometown Murray Johnson Tourney on the weekend of November 24, 25 and 26th.

Their first game was scheduled in Caledonia against the Port Dover white team.  The Hawks started the game a little sluggish and Dover took this opportunity to put themselves up by two before the end of the first.

In the second, the Hawks found their blades and didn’t look back.  Less than 10 seconds in Quintin Salverda rushed in on a breakaway and found the back of the Dover net.  Emmitt Houwer added another late in the second to even the board assisted by Conner Rasberry.  Ryan Dewaard gave his team the go ahead goal, also in the second, assisted by Rasberry.  Calvin Eggink between the pipes this season continued to wow the crowd with his amazing skills.

The third found the Hawks add two more to their side.  The first snuck in while a scuffle took place in front of the Dover net by Drew Gibbons, assisted by Devyn Russell and Emily Walton.  The second and final goal of the game was scored by Houwer assisted by Walton and Tristan Hoyt.  Great start to the tourney Hawks.  Final score 5-2.

On Saturday November 25th the Hawks arrived at the arena sporting some spiffy staches in support of Movember.  They were set to play visitor to Dunnville Mudcats, on their home ice in Hagersville this game, late Saturday afternoon.  Both teams were looking for the win as they were both up by one game so far in the tourney.  The first period saw a lot of action on both ends of the rink.  Calvin Eggink looked sharp in net today and the Mudcats were not going to put anything past him.  Late in the first Quintin Salverda was the Hawk that made it happen when he scored the game’s opening goal unassisted.

Salverda’s scoring continued into the second when he scored the only goal of this period again unassisted.

The third saw more action at both ends when Salverda completed his hat trick and then some.  His first goal was unassisted and his next was assisted by Emily Walton.  The Mudcats marked the board between Salverda’s two goals with their only score this game.  Mason Mitchell ended the game with only 4 seconds left on the clock when he also scored a goal unassisted and the Hawks found themselves heading to the A finals in their Hometown tourney.

On Sunday November 26th in true Hagersville fashion, the two hometown teams were set to play against each other in the A finals of their own tournament.  The game took place very early in Caledonia and fans could tell coming out of the gate this was going to be a good game to watch.  Hagersville Legion put themselves up by two before the end of the first but CGC was not backing down.

The goalies on both ends were solid as rocks today with all the shots they were seeing.  Calvin Eggink on the CGC end was amazing as always and Cameron Schweitzer on the Legion’s end looked sharp between the pipes as well.  CGC was the only team that marked the board this period when Mason Mitchell’s shot trickled in past Schweitzer with the assistance of Quintin Salverda.

In the third CGC’s Ryan Dewaard evened the board when he found the Legion’s net assisted once again by Salverda.  The score stayed even for only a moment when the Legion answered back with 4 more before the final buzzer rang to take the game this round and the championship.  CGC played an amazing tournament and showed what true comradery in a team looks like as they left the ice with their heads held high.  Great job team and awesome tournament.
