PENALTY TROUBLE
As usual our team didn't disappoint ............ lots of end to end action, great puck movement, sportsmanship and team play, all things that make the game fun for us in the stands. Our Hawks had lots of energy and were shooting from everywhere on the ice but Caledonia's goalie was on his game and handled rebounds smartly.  Relentless attack early in the game got us on the board quickly but Caledonia was battling back and never gave up

Caledonia moved the puck very well through the neutral but their attack was no match for our defense, great team defense and hustle ensured Caledonia's shots were kept outside and rebounds were not a problem as they were quickly cleared.  Early in the first period Caledonia learned that our speedy forwards were going to be a force as Connor and Dean teamed up for the first goal of the game less than a minute and half in.  The remainder of the first period was mostly played in the neutral zone with both teams clearing the puck from there end quickly and lots of turnovers.

Caledonia took a tripping penalty with 7:48 on the clock in the 2nd period but there was no celebrations on this power play as Caledonia's PK was dynamite, their defense dumped the puck repeatedly until the penalty expired.  The success on the penalty kill shifted momentum in the game and Caledonia pressured our defense until the scored an ugly goal late in the second period to tie the game at 1.  Just seconds later Hagersville was off to the sin bin for the first time of the game but the Hawks hung on and ended the 2nd with a tie game.

Coach Keith must have said something inspiring because when the puck dropped to start the 3rd period the Hawks were flying, while still on the PK from the previous period they dumped the puck in and Connor through it cross ice to Carly who was waiting patiently in front of the net for her chance to change the game with the second tally for her team.  Caledonia fought frantically to get the equalizer after the PP left them trailing the game but our defense was still steady and controlled the play efficiently keeping Caledonia's shots to a minimum.  Every turnover led to a scoring opportunity for the Hawks but that Caledonia goalie wasn't giving up the insurance goal and held the game to a goal.  The penalty kill was on for the 3rd time of the period and Caledonia threw a puck at the net that slipped between the wickets to tie the game with less than two minutes to play.  The Hawks continued to attack for the go ahead goal but yet another penalty spoiled the effort and Caledonia held on for the tie.
