UNDER FIRE
Our Hawks were under fire tonight as we faced off against the league leader Caledonia 2.  They have not been beat this season.......... yet............ and tonights game made it apparent why.  I hate saying it but they are good, well they move the puck well and can put some pressure on you but Nolan was ready to give his team a fighting chance and I'd say a little more intensity from our Hawks might be all we need.

The first period was fast and furious, the game in a nutshell for me was good puck movement by Caledonia and it was clear that the coaches strategy was attack, you don't have to play defense if the puck isn't in your end.  Caledonia's game plan was as clear as the nose on your face and the kids executed as they outshot us 8 - 2 in the first period but Nolan stayed cool and was ready to keep the puck on the right side of the goal line, there were some close calls and one of the pucks narrowly hung on to the line but it might as well been at center ice because it didn't cross.

Into the second period and more of the same, Caledonia relentlessly attacking but their defense slipped on a cross ice pass and it went to the wrong team, Ryan and Chase relayed it up to Jack and he threw it on net for our first of the game and the lead on just our third shot.  Caledonia turned it up a notch... or two and went to the attack again, winning battle after battle and placing shot after shot on net scoring the next 3 goals.  The second of the which required the initial shot and 3 rebound attempts to make it's way behind Nolan who was clearly determined to keep this game within reach for his teammates, the third goal was a nice pass to player in the slot who had lots of time to pick his spot and he found it with a hard wrist shot.  The Hawks needed to get one back to keep the game in reach and they answered quickly as Adriano moved the puck smartly to Dean who made scoring look easy as he flipped a puck over the goalies stick to bring the Hawks within a goal despite being outshot 23 - 5 by the end of the second period.

In the third period the Hawks settled down, worked together for some team defense and cleared the puck well but no more goals were scored and Caledonia 2 remains undefeated but like I mentioned in my previous article, where we all finish after 9 games will be of little of consequence.
