The
Hagersville Hawks Novice Red Star Portables travelled to challenge Caledonia
Thunder 2 on October 23rd.
The opposing team scored the game opener, giving Caledonia an early lead
in the first, but they only held that lead for a few minutes as with 9.7 seconds
left on the clock Hagersville’s William Voltuik scored his first of the season
for his team assisted by Emmitt Houwer.
If this wasn’t amazing enough, Hagersville’s Jacob Yates found the net with 3.9 seconds left of the first, for his first goal of the season, giving his team the lead heading in to the second. Jacob’s goal was assisted by Voltuik and Houwer.
In the second goaltender Cameron Coffey made some incredible saves keeping his team ahead. Koen Berkel found the board three minutes in with some help from Emily Walton when he deked out Caledonia’s goalie with some fancy moves. Caledonia scored one of their own, less than a minute later, putting them down by only one. Berkel wasn’t ready to put his stick down yet as he scored another for his team with 3 minutes left of the second assisted by Madelynn Lammel and Matthew Sinclair.
The Hawks were up by 2 heading in to the third but Caledonia wasn’t giving up easily. Coffey continued to shut the door on them. It wasn’t until less than 5 minutes of the game remained that Caledonia received a break and were able to sneak one past, putting them down by only one. Hagersville tried to extend the gap a bit more with some really good plays, but the game ended in a draw, when Caledonia managed one more for their side, with less than a minute left in the game and a curfew only a few seconds later. Great game Hawks. Final score 4-4.
