HAWKS SOARING OVER ROCKETS
What a great start to our Southern Counties playoff! One goal was apparently all these kids needed to believe that they could skate with the rockets. Delhi put the first marker on the board early in the first period and it was all to familiar, I don't know how many of you have noticed but Delhi scores most of their goals on the same play. Our coach noticed and after a quick talk and a couple of adjustments the score was tied and the Hawks got some wind under their wings to keep them soaring.
It was a great game with lots of end to end play and some great chances both ways, until the third period where Tyler and Chase both cashed in on breakaway opportunities resulting from solid defense. 4 - 2 was the final score as the rockets sputtered in third after we took our first lead of the season against Delhi, there was lots of action in both creases as the netminders exchanged highlight saves in the second and third period. Our defense was the difference though as quick breakouts resulted in the game winner and insurance goals. Delhi turned up the intensity after we went up by a goal and continued to crash the net, Nolan confidently turned away a breakaway opportunity and guarded the line as Delhi crashed the net repeatedly. The Rockets were extinguished after their aggressive play left another breakaway opportunity that was not going to be wasted....... GOAL. On the ensuing face off you could see the victory was secured as Delhi skated to center with their heads hanging low.
This isn't the last we'll see of Delhi.....we will face off against them in our final Southern Counties playoff game and could see them before that in OMHA playdowns.....
Tonight will not be any easier as we faceoff against Port Dover
