After some recent frustrating losses, the
Bantams headed to Ayr on December 11th with a renewed focus on team
work. The larger ice surface was a bit
of a challenge and hard work was required from every player with no goals in
the first. Both teams spent time in the
penalty box and the Hawks were able to score late in the third at the end of a
power play.
Earning the points were Braden Bond assisted by Logan Ashworth and Daxton Wybenga. Ayr had a bit more luck at the net to take the win. While the loss was disappointing, Hagersville’s effort was not and the Hawks showed that they have much more to give.
That was proven the following Monday, December 14th as the Bantams finished the regular schedule at home against Tavistock. Spirits on the bench were lifted by the return of Brody Smith to the lineup. Tavistock came out strong, often controlling the play in the first but the game was scoreless after one.
The visitors managed a goal early in the second but the Hawks played with a ‘never give up’ attitude that paid off. A strong power play effort resulted in Jade Bacher netting the tying goal, assisted by Logan Ashworth and Cole Campbell. Hagersville scored again after the goalie mishandled the puck, enabling Travis Phibbs to pass from behind the net to Tucker Awalt who got the go ahead.
Tavistock regained the lead with two goals in the third but Jordan LaForme stayed true to form making many saves including a big stop on a breakaway attempt. Travis and Tucker collaborated in tight at the net with Travis getting the puck in for matching 3’s on the board. Penalties to both sides added tension to the third but it was the Hawks determined play that gave them a well earned tie in one of the most exciting games of the season.
