Good Start to the Season
The Atom Rep Hawks season began at home with a fantastic effort against Waterford, although they were held to fewer goals than the two exhibition games it was still a loss at Home. The first period was fantastic with equal effort from all the players as the netminder could have spent most of the period on the bench.
After a brief break following the first period the Wildcats were wound up and the Hawks seemed to have their wings clipped as Waterford out muscled the kids in white and won battles all over the ice. They peppered the net with shots for two periods and walked away with two unanswered goals.
The following week Twin Centre came to town and unfortunately for them the Hawks were flying high and there was no way they were getting beat at home twice in a row, Tyler Matthews led the way on the scoreboard starting the game with a Hat Trick. Noah Michaud added another in the second period scoring his first of the season and Owen Doolittle with a text book tip in the 3rd period had the Hawks up 5 - 0. Assists were plentiful as most of the roster helped put points on the board for this outstanding win.
Solid defense kept the shots on net to a minimum as Nolan had a slow night between the pipes, Waterford found a lone skater out front of the net who made no mistake firing it through the 5 hole to negate the shutout but the there was no doubt that the win was already secured.
We'll need the same effort next week when St. George comes back to town looking for redemption after our Hawks picked them apart at our last meeting.
Some of the kids will be anxious to get to practice Sunday morning for a 7 AM practice to learn who they...yes I said they... selected to be the Captain and Assistant Captains for the season.
