LONG ROAD TO VICTORY
What a fantastic semi-final Win to snap a 3 game winless streak...the later part of February was tough as the kids in black and red couldn't seem to find the back of the net having scored only 4 goals in 3 games with 8 goals against in the same time frame. We narrowly hung on to a semi-final spot thanks in part to good luck which lead us up to this exciting and well played semi-final.  Whether we win or lose this Sunday afternoon all of these kids deserve a pat on the back for their effort and sportmanship.

The kids took to the ice on Thursday night with one job to do...WIN, and when the puck dropped they left little doubt that that is exactly what they were going to do.  The Hawks net looked more like nest as Nolan Williams settled in confidently and made a couple of early saves and then watched his teammates attack the Glanbrook net and take a 2 goal lead.  The scoring started with Tyler Swick who buried a rebound followed by colorful celebration with assists going to Riley Wilson and Josh Sweika.  Less than two minutes later Sweika would tally his second point of the game as he picked up the puck in front of the Hawks net and carried it down to show the Devils where it belongs....in the back of their net.

The second period was as if the game had started over, the Devils had some fire in them and they dominated play, with great goaltending at both ends the hawks held the lead going into the third but only by a goal as the Devils were able to pick up a loose puck behind the net and tuck it inside the post.

In the third the attack continued but unwaivered by the single goal our netminder remained confident and calm while the defensive play continued to shine as our D picked up loose pucks and the forwards kept the breakout working well by deflecting pucks into the neutral zone.  A faceoff at our blue line with a minute and a half to go gave Glanbrook the opportunity they'd been waiting for, the puck dropped and was quickly shot into the Hawks end as the Devils netminder scurried to the bench and the extra attacker took to the ice.  It was total chaos for a little over a minute until the Hawks captain picked up a loose puck, smartly made his way over the red line before firing the puck down the ice and it wobbled its way into the Glanbrook net.  Glanbrook would come back and score a quick goal but with only 3 seconds on the clock but  it was of little consequence, Noah's goal would hang on as the game winner and the team crashed the ice to celebrate the hard fought victory.

To start the season with 11 teams and be 1 of 2 left standing is an accomplishment in itself and it has been a pleasure to be part of this team, great kids...but it sure would be nice to beat Caledonia wouldn't it!!
